Our Story
The New World Symphony, America’s Orchestral Academy (NWS), is a world-renowned orchestral academy and premier arts organization located in the heart of Miami Beach. Through fellowships lasting up to three years, NWS prepares emerging classical musicians to become artistic leaders in performing, educational and community-based organizations worldwide.
Led by Artistic Director Stéphane Denève, NWS Fellows refine their musical voices while developing entrepreneurial, collaborative and civic skills. Since its founding in 1987 by Artistic Director Laureate Michael Tilson Thomas and Lin and Ted Arison, NWS has helped launch the careers of over 1,300 alumni.
More than 1,000 graduates of music schools and conservatories worldwide compete for approximately 30 available fellowships each year. Fellows are chosen for their musical excellence, artistic promise and commitment to shaping the future of classical music.
Each season, NWS also collaborates with today’s most distinguished artists in concerts and events designed for music lovers of all ages in Miami and beyond.
NWS is an accredited institutional member of the National Association of Schools of Music.
New World Center
The stunning New World Center is New World Symphony’s (NWS) campus and state-of-the-art performance venue in Miami Beach. Designed by legendary architect Frank Gehry, the New World Center’s striking glass façade and elegant curves are matched only by its groundbreaking technological capabilities.
Home to the Knight New Media Center, the New World Center serves as a creative laboratory where NWS explores the future of orchestral music. Just outside in SoundScape Park, NWS’s WALLCAST® concerts bring live classical music to the community on a soaring 7,000-square-foot projection wall.
Beyond concerts, the New World Center transforms seamlessly to host a wide variety of events – from national film festivals to corporate gatherings and weddings
