Will Fowler

Will Fowler is a second-year Trombone Fellow at the New World Symphony. Originally from the Maryland suburbs of the Washington, D.C. area, he began his musical journey in group piano lessons at a young age before finding the trombone in fourth grade. After graduating from high school, Will moved to Evanston, Illinois to attend Northwestern University’s Bienen School of Music. There, he studied with teachers Michael Mulcahy, Douglas Wright, NWS alum Christopher Davis, Randall Hawes and Timothy Higgins. Will was member of two trombone quartets that would go on to win the International Trombone Association Quartet Competition in 2022, and the National Quartet Competition at the American Trombone Workshop in 2023.

Will went on to pursue his master’s of music degree at The Juilliard School, where he studied with Joseph Alessi. Will performed with The Juilliard Orchestra and the Juilliard Trombone Choir, as well performing in Renaissance Chamber group under the direction of Raymond Mase. Will was also able to perform as a guest with orchestras such as the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra and the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra.

In conjunction with his musical studies, Will pursued a double major in political science at Northwestern due to his interests in government and politics, as well as international relations. A synthesis of all three of his interests, one of his favorite courses from his time was the Politics of Post-Soviet Russia.
