Max Healy

Max Healy is a second-year Cello Fellow at the New World Symphony. He was a member of the Lansing Symphony Orchestra for the 2024-25 season and recently graduated from the University of Michigan, where he toured South Africa as a member of the University Symphony Orchestra.

Recent summer highlights include performing with the National Repertory Orchestra, LyricaFest and the Round Top Festival Institute, where his piano trio was selected for the Best of Chamber Music showcase. Other festival appearances include the National Orchestral Institute, where he served as Principal Cello in 2022, and the University of North Texas Summer String Institute, where he won the concerto competition.

Dedicated to new music, Max performed extensively with the Contemporary Directions Ensemble at the University of Michigan. While at the National Orchestral Institute, he was selected for the “New Directions” new music ensemble. He has given solo performances of new music as a member of the TCU New Music Ensemble and as a featured performer at the National Association of Composers USA conference in 2021.

An enthusiastic chamber musician, Max has participated in numerous chamber music intensives including LyricaFest, Cactus Pear Music Festival Young Artist Program, Camerata San Antonio String Quartet Seminar and the inaugural Texas Chamber Music Institute, where he was a member of the ensemble-in-residence. He has performed in chamber music master classes for members of the Telegraph and Miró quartets, among others.

Max received his master of music degree from the University of Michigan and his bachelor of music degree from Texas Christian University, where he was a Chancellor’s Scholar. He has had the great privilege to study with Richard Aaron, Dr. Juliette Herlin, Dr. Jesús Castro-Balbi, Ignacio Gallego and Cora Harnish.
