Ziwei Ma

Ziwei Ma, currently the Conducting Fellow and The Judith Rodin Fellowship for an Outstanding Woman Musician at the New World Symphony, has been named a 2026-28 Award Recipient of the Taki Alsop Conducting Fellowship. She recently served as Cover Conductor for The Philadelphia Orchestra under Stéphane Denève and appeared as Offstage Conductor with members of the orchestra in performances of Richard Strauss’s An Alpine Symphony.

As Conducting Fellow of the New World Symphony, Ziwei leads family, educational and holiday programming, and appears on subscription concerts throughout the season. She works closely with Artistic Director Stéphane Denève and a roster of guest conductors, including Carlos Miguel Prieto, Domingo Hindoyan, John Adams, Tianyi Lu, Andrew Grams and Manfred Honeck.

Ziwei has attended leading music festivals such as the Lakes Area Music Festival, to which she has been invited to return in 2026, and the Aspen Music Festival and School, as well as European master classes, receiving guidance from conductors including Marin Alsop, Vasily Petrenko, Alan Gilbert, and James Ross. She further developed her experience through workshops with the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra and the Fort Wayne Philharmonic, mentored by JoAnn Falletta and Andrew Constantine.

Born and raised in Beijing, Ziwei graduated from the Central Conservatory of Music before earning her master’s and doctoral degrees in orchestral conducting at The Hartt School under the mentorship of Edward Cumming.
