Tyler McKisson

Tyler McKisson is a third-year Viola Fellow at the New World Symphony and comes to Miami Beach from across the country. A native of Colorado, he has completed fellowships with the Cincinnati Symphony and most recently with the Virginia Symphony. His education credentials include a bachelor’s degree from the University of Northern Colorado, where he studied under Christopher Luther and NWS alum Anne Lanzilotti; a master’s degree from the University of Colorado – Boulder, where he studied under Erika Eckert; and an artist diploma from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music, where he studied under Catharine Lees. Tyler was the viola faculty for the Virginia Arts Festival Summer Strings program for 2024.

Before Tyler finished his undergraduate studies, he was a tenured member of the Cheyenne Symphony for four seasons. He was also a member of the All Angles Orchestra, which received the Downbeat Student Music Award for Large Jazz Ensemble in 2018. Additionally, the ensemble recorded their debut album, New Angle, in 2017 through Outside in Music Record Label. Tyler has also participated in master classes as a soloist and as part of an ensemble led by artists such as Guillermo Figueroa, Robert deMaine and Matthew Dane.

Tyler was a national finalist in the MTNA Competition Chamber Division and has received a number of scholarships and grants to aid his undergraduate and graduate studies. He has participated in several summer music programs on scholarship including the Aspen Music Festival and School and Zodiac Music Academy Festival in Valdeblore, France.
