Andrew Port

New York native Andrew Port eagerly joins the New World Symphony as a third-year Oboe Fellow for the 2024-25 season. Prior to arriving in Miami Beach, he served as Principal Oboe of the Elgin Symphony, appointed by Music Director and NWS alum Chad Goodman, and was a member of the Civic Orchestra of Chicago, serving as both an orchestral member and fellow for one season. In recent years, he has appeared as a regular substitute with the Chicago Symphony and as a soloist with the Peoria Symphony. Andrew has also appeared as a regular substitute with the San Francisco Symphony, both as Principal Oboe and Second Oboe during its 2021-22 season, and has performed alongside the Boston Symphony at Tanglewood on Parade. Throughout his career, Andrew has collaborated alongside artists such as Emanuel Ax, Yo-Yo Ma, Midori Gotō, John Williams and more. 

A strong believer in thoughtful and engaging programming for both orchestral and chamber music settings, Andrew is an avid performer of chamber music both with winds and strings. He was a founding member of the award-winning woodwind sextet Les Six in Boston, and performed at multiple historic venues including the Museum of Fine Art and Boston Public Library.

During his summers, Andrew has joined the Chicago Symphony at its Ravinia Festival residency, and attended notable music festivals such as the Tanglewood Music Center, Music Academy of the West, National Repertory Orchestra, Spoleto U.S.A. Festival and Verbier Music Camp. He holds his master’s and bachelor’s degrees in music performance from New England Conservatory, where he studied with John Ferrillo and Anne Gabriele. He holds an additional certificate of professional studies from San Francisco Conservatory of Music, where he studied with NWS alum Eugene Izotov, and is also a graduate of The Juilliard School’s Pre-College program, where he was a student of the late Richard Dallessio.
